NCSE is seeking candidates for three positions: Education Project Director, Faith Project Director, and Archives Project Director. Please feel free to disseminate the descriptions of these positions to any qualified candidates who might be interested.
Education Project Director
The National Center for Science Education, a non-profit organization that defends the teaching of evolution in the public schools, seeks candidates for the post of Education Project Director.
The EPD's duties will include:
- developing materials pertaining to evolution education for print and web;
- representing NCSE to the education community, in print and in person;
- serving as liaison between NCSE and professional education societies;
- speaking to the press about issues involving evolution education and challenges to it;
- counseling teachers, administrators, parents, and others facing challenges to evolution education.
Preference will be given to candidates with advanced degrees in science education and/or high school science teaching experience. Candidates without such experience and/or education should expect, if hired, to engage in formal and/or informal opportunities to learn about pedagogical and educational issues relating to science education. A scientific background, especially in biology or geology, is a plus, as is a record of involvement in or understanding of the creationism/evolution controversy. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are necessary. Travel may be required.
Full-time permanent position with medical benefits in Oakland, California, to start as soon as possible. Salary commensurate with experience and competitive with similarly sized non-profits.

Faith Project Director

- representing NCSE to the faith community, in print and in person;
- serving as liaison between NCSE and professional theological societies and religious organizations;
- speaking to the press about issues involving evolution education and challenges to it;
- counseling teachers, administrators, parents, and others facing challenges to evolution education.
Candidates should have either formal academic training in or extensive informal knowledge of theology, particularly as it relates to science. A record of involvement in or understanding of the creationism/evolution controversy is a plus. A scientific background, especially in biology or geology, and experience in science education at the high school level are desirable but not necessary. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are necessary. Travel may be required.

Archives Project Director
The National Center for Science Education, a non-profit organization that defends the teaching of evolution in the public schools, seeks candidates for the post of Archives Project Director.
The APD's duties will include:
- Managing and promoting the NCSE archives;
- Organizing and assessing the value of existing holdings;
- Developing a digital archive and publishing selected items on the website;
- Preserving endangered and damaged items;
- Maintaining and developing book, video, audio, media, and periodicals collections;
- Maintaining archive- and publication-related sections of the website and monitor web activity;
- Assisting in the maintenance of shelf files and other reference files;
- Inventorying and archiving donated archival collections;
- Promoting and making these resources available to the NCSE's staff and to interested members of the public;
- Assisting with scanning, slide duplication, and other media activities;
- Supervising work-study students and volunteer assistants
Attention to detail, flexibility, computer literacy, and ALA-accredited MLS or comparable work experience essential; knowledge of creation/evolution controversy, biology, and/or history of science preferred.
